Looking after “The Natural” Randy Couture

Posted in INTERVIEWS, MMA NEWS by admin

Following his unanimous decision win over Brandon Vera at UFC 105 Randy “The Natural” Couture spent the day being looked after by Fightkits own Andy Farrell.

Andy worked as Coutures personal security during his book signing to launch “Becoming The Natural” a New York Times bestseller here in the UK.

FK: How was Randy the morning after the fight?

Andy: He was in great shape apart from a few aches and pains, the cut above his eye had been stitched but they had done a great job and there wasn’t much swelling. He was definitely in high spirits after his win.

FK: Randy always comes accross well in interviews, what was he like in person?

Andy: He is just like he is as you see him on screen. Placid, mild mannered and very polite. He did a 2.5hr book signing the day after a 3 round fight and was as accomodating to the last fan as he was the first.

FK: So no sign of any ego then?

Andy: None what so ever. He is a really down to earth and humble guy. It sounds hard to believe after he has achieved so much in both MMA and the media but there really is no show business with him. He’s just a very genuine guy.

FK: I know you met him before the fight during the week, any nerves?

Andy: He didn’t look like he had any nerves. Definitely no tension at all, he was just as polite and accomodating as he was the day after he had won his fight. Many fighters pre-fight would not be as accomodating as Randy was but there was no sign at all of any nerves or stress. It was just like a normal day to him. I’d have to put that down to him being so experienced within his chosen sport.

FK: Going back to the signing, what was the reaction of all the fans that got to meet him?

Andy: The place went crazy when Randy walked out. The guy is a legend in MMA. Every single person that met him was in awe. During the question and answer a few fans got the chance to ask Randy a question, he answered every one. He’s just a very accomodating person.

FK: Meeting a legend like Randy Couture he must have made an impression on you?

Andy: I worked out that its not about time or how young or old you might be its if you believe in the sport, whats the worst that can happen? You might lose a fight, or you might win a fight but every fight that you compete in the experience that you gain from that 10 or 15 minutes can set you up for years. Listen for me Randy is the number 1 guy because there is nobody else in my eyes that has done what he has done, unless someone can tell me different. Even after all the success he has had Randy is still one of the most down to earth and humble guys that I have ever met. I think that says it all.
